Jeffrey C. Poole, MD, FAAD, Board Certified Dermatologist
Dr. Poole received his undergraduate education from the University of Virginia. He earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, while on a full scholarship from the United States Air Force. Following medical school, he completed an internship and residency in Pediatrics at Keesler AFB Regional Medical Center. His tour of duty included being stationed at Charleston AFB, South Carolina, where he was Chief of Pediatrics for 2 years. Dr. Poole then performed a residency in Dermatology at the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, during which he was selected to be Chief Resident. He has attained the highest level of accreditation in his specialty, being Board Certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
In addition to his private practice, Dr. Poole is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at both the LSU and Tulane Schools of Medicine, acting as their Pediatric, Adolescent, and Laser specialist, and remains a Board Certified Pediatrician. Dr. Poole is also Chief of Dermatology and a founder and Director of the Vascular Anomalies Center – Children’s Hospital New Orleans, an area of his specialty where he has great interest and expertise. Dr. Poole is a published medical author, and has given numerous talks on a wide range of topics at regional and local society meetings. Teaching medical students and residents continues to be one of his strong areas of interest. He maintains a high level of continuing medical education activity as demonstrated by being awarded both the AMA’s Physician Recognition Award with Commendation and the American Academy of Dermatology’s CME Award. He has been recognized locally by both New Orleans Magazine and Louisiana Life Magazine as a Top Doc in his field.
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery and the Society for Pediatric Dermatology. He is a member of the Greater New Orleans Pediatric Society, and a member and Past-President of the Louisiana Dermatologic Society. He has privileges at East Jefferson General Hospital, the Medical Center of Louisiana, and Children’s Hospital of New Orleans.
David W. Powell, MD
Dr. Powell is a board-certified dermatologist licensed in both Louisiana and Texas. He graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1993 after receiving a full scholarship from the United States Navy. Dr. Powell completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia and his United States Naval Flight Surgeon training at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida. He served as the Senior Flight Surgeon at Naval Air Station, Dallas and Joint Reserve Base, Ft. Worth, Texas. After concluding his active duty service in the Navy, Dr. Powell returned to New Orleans and completed his dermatology residency at Tulane and Charity Hospital in 2001. During this time, he also served as a reserve Flight Surgeon at Naval Air Station, Belle Chasse. For the last 16 years, he has been a highly respected member of the Houston medical community.
Dr. Powell enjoys practicing all aspects of dermatology, including general, surgical, cosmetic, pediatric and geriatric. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. Powell, his wife Courtney (a New Orleans native) and their two children, Sam and Josie, are excited to be returning home and being part of the Sanova Poole Dermatology family.
Dr. Kristy Charles
Dr. Kristy Charles is a board-certified dermatologist that specializes in medical and procedural dermatology. Dr. Charles enjoys assisting her patients in maintaining healthy skin routines and excels at providing patients with thorough and clear treatment plans.
Dr. Charles obtained her medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine, where she was first in her class and was elected president of a prestigious national medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha. After Dr. Charles completed her dermatology residency at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Following her time at the University of Michigan, she became an associate staff physician at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation where she continued to be involved in patient care as well as resident education.
She provides a variety of dermatologic care, from routine skin checks to complex dermatology, for both adult and pediatric patients. In addition to being trained in surgical removal of benign and malignant skin lesions, she has expertise in cosmetic procedures, including injectable fillers and neurotoxins, chemical peels, sclerotherapy, laser for vascular and pigmented lesions and facial rejuvenation. Dr. Charles has a special interest in alopecia, expertise in treating pediatric infantile hemangiomas, and advanced dermoscopy skills allowing early detection of skin cancers.
Dr. Charles is also involved in various dermatologic associations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and the Women’s Dermatologic Society. Within the dermatology literature, she is published in both melanoma and infectious disease.
Besides being a highly skilled dermatologist, Dr. Charles enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and golden retriever, Nola. She is also an avid runner, having previously run multiple marathons, including the Boston Marathon.
Alicia Haslauer, Physician Assistant
In May 2007, Alicia graduated summa cum laude from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences. She continued her academic studies at the University of South Alabama -Department of Physician Assistant Studies where she completed the didactic core curriculum, clinical rotations, and a Master’s thesis. She graduated in July of 2010 and received a Master of Health Science degree.
In October 2010, Alicia began working as a certified Physician Assistant at Poole Dermatology under the direct supervision of Dr. Jeffrey Poole. Alicia treats a wide range of skin conditions as well as performs multiple surgical procedures and excisions. She is also expanding her interests and skills in cosmetic dermatology. She is board certified with both the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Alicia is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, and the Louisiana Academy of Physician Assistants. Alicia maintains her certification with Continuing Medical Education hours and attends the annual American Academy of Dermatology conference. Alicia resides in New Orleans where she was born and raised. When not seeing patients, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three sons.
